Quick answers about the game and the alpha.
What is The Olde World: Online?
The Olde World: Online is a free full-loot PvP sandbox MMORPG that you play in a web browser, with nothing to download. Everyone plays in one world, on one shard. There are no levels: skills grow as you use them. When you die, everything you were carrying stays on your body for whoever reaches it first. It is made by crkhaus studios and is in open alpha.
Is it free to play?
Yes. The alpha is free to play. Pick a name and a password and you are in, with no email to confirm.
Do I have to download anything?
No. The game runs in a browser tab: no client, no launcher, nothing to install. The first visit takes longer while your browser fetches the game's art, and the browser keeps it for next time.
What do I need to play?
A computer with an up-to-date Google Chrome. Browsers built on Chrome, such as Edge, Brave and Opera, work okay. Firefox and Safari can have trouble running the game; if you play in Firefox, these settings help. Phones and tablets are not supported yet.
Are there levels or classes?
No. Skills rise as you use them: swing a sword and Swordsmanship climbs, bandage a friend and Healing does. You can hold 720 skill points in all, so every character is a mix you choose. During the alpha, Master Weft in town can set your skills at once, or give you a template such as Knight or Battle Mage, so you can try a build straight away.
What is there to do?
Fight other players, or the bandits, warbands and dragons out past the walls and whatever waits in the dungeons. Learn magic. Mine ore, smelt it and forge weapons and armor. Tame animals, ride horses, pick pockets, dye your clothes, compose music and play it on a lute, own a house, and trade on the auction house. Groups of up to ten share what they find.
Can other players attack me?
Outside town, anyone can attack anyone. Towns are guarded: attack an innocent there and a shout of "guards" brings one to cut you down. The color of your name shows your reputation: blue for innocent, grey for a criminal, red for a murderer.
What happens when I die?
You rise as a ghost, and everything you were carrying stays on your body, where anyone can take it. The body rots in ten minutes, so hurry back. A shrine brings you back to life. Your starting clothes are blessed and stay on you, and what you keep in your bank box or lock down in your house stays safe.
Who makes it?
crkhaus studios builds and runs it. The game changes every week during the alpha, and the patch notes list every update.
Where do players talk?
On the Discord, where updates are posted first, and on r/theoldeworld. In the game, /ticket asks the staff for help.
Is this the strategy game Old World?
No. Old World is a strategy game from Mohawk Games, and Warhammer: The Old World is a tabletop game from Games Workshop. The Olde World: Online, Olde with an e, is an MMORPG you play in a browser, made by crkhaus studios.
