The desktop app
The game in a window of its own, for Windows and Mac. It runs the same game as the browser, with Chrome's engine built in, so it doesn't matter which browser you use. It keeps full speed behind other windows, picks the fast graphics chip on Windows laptops that have two, and updates itself.
It is free, and it is the same world and the same account: log in with the name and password you already have. The browser still works as it always has.
Finding the latest version.
Installing on Windows
- Open the file you downloaded. It installs for you alone, with no administrator prompt, puts the game on your desktop and in the Start menu, and opens it.
- If Windows says Windows protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway. Windows says this about new programs it hasn't seen many people run yet.
Installing on a Mac
- Open the file you downloaded and drag Ael Myr into Applications.
- Open it from Applications. The first time, macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet: click Open.
Opened it straight from the download? It offers to move itself into Applications, since it can only update itself from there.
Updates
The game's own updates reach the app the moment they go live, as they reach the browser. The app fetches new versions of itself in the background while you play and puts them in place when you quit.
Removing it
- Windows: open Settings, then Apps, find Ael Myr and choose Uninstall. The game's saved art goes with it.
- Mac: drag Ael Myr from Applications to the Trash. The game's saved art stays in ~/Library/Application Support/Ael Myr until you delete that folder too.
