🎵 Update: Music comes to The Olde World
The taverns have been quiet too long. The realm now has its first instrument, its first sheet music, and its first bards. Whether it has any good bards is up to you.
🪕 The Lute. Sits in your off-hand like a shield. Meant to be played.
📖 Sheet Music. A booklet holding up to 12 pieces. Open it like a runebook, pick a page, and you're at the writing desk.
Composing
Every page is a little piano roll. Left-click to pencil a note and drag to hold it longer. Drag to move it, right-click to erase. Tap the keys on the left to hear a pitch first. Name it, set a tempo, and go. Up to 32 bars and 500 notes per piece.
Hear it previews the tune for you alone.
Write it down saves it.
Play it performs it.
Strike it out deletes it (press twice).
Performing
Equip the lute, open the book, hit Play it. Your main hand empties into your pack, because this takes both hands.
- Everyone within earshot hears you, a bit further than a shout. The music follows you as you walk.
- Your character actually strums, in time with the piece.
- One tune at a time. Unequip or drop the lute and the song dies mid-bar. So does dying.
⚠️ Playing reveals you, same as speaking. There are no hidden bards. Only briefly hidden ones.
The fine print
No Musicianship skill yet, so every note lands perfectly. Enjoy it while it lasts. More instruments are coming, and anything you write today will play on all of them.
Now go write something. And please, not Wonderwall.
